The Sandringham Estate, Envar Composting and Countrystyle Recycling join forces in major partnership to close the loop on compostables
Envar Composting are proud to announce a major partnership with The Sandringham Estate to supply a number of innovative closed loop services including the recycling of compostable packaging out of the Royal Estate.
The unique combination of sister company Countrystyle Recycling’s waste management recycling business expertise and Envar’s composting of green waste to produce compost, will mean The Sandringham Estate is closer to delivering on both their goals and commitment to the closed loop economy and waste reduction.
To successfully achieve a closed loop solution for Sandringham, Countrystyle will collect the compostable packaging and waste food using one of Countrystyle’s specialist food recycling vehicles. This will be taken to Envar’s flagship in-vessel composting site at St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Here the innovative composting process will turn the waste into a soil conditioner for the agricultural, viticultural and horticultural markets where it will be used to help grow crops.
Both Countrystyle Recycling and Envar are part of the family- owned Heathcote Holdings group of resource management companies.
Our progressive approach enables attractions and businesses to fully recycle compostable packaging via a sustainable treatment, avoiding the need for energy recovery or landfill.
The Sandringham Estate is now aiming to inspire other attractions and businesses to join the innovative partnership with Envar and Countrystyle Recycling.
Importantly The Sandringham Estate will close the loop by using the soil improver produced by Envar around the grounds, to showcase the positive impact this has to the environment.

Joe Hemsley-Rudd, Head of Commercial Operations at Countrystyle Recycling said: “Compostable packaging and food waste must be collected and processed in a particular way to ensure maximum environmental benefit. Countrystyle Recycling has invested in a fleet of dedicated dual pod vehicles for the collection of food waste and compostable packaging. These specially designed vehicles also reduce the carbon footprint of collections. The waste is then taken to our sister company Envar’s in- vessel composting operation at St Ives Cambridge where it is processed into compost. This collaboration ensures our commitment to sustainability, the environment and ties into our Group’s ethos of closing the loop and creating a viable circular economy. We are proud to be able to offer this dedicated service to support the Sandringham initiative and enable the composting of this compostable packaging.”
Andy Sibley, Managing Director of Envar Composting Ltd added: “As more businesses use compostable packaging, we hope to see a reduction in the use of single use plastics and help to improve the health of our planet. We are pleased to be able to provide a recycling solution for The Sandringham Estate; Envar is in the unique position to process compostable packaging through our innovative in- vessel composting system.
