FAQs

What is wood chip?

Our wood chips are made from mixed hardwood and softwood and are approximately 5-35mm in size (may be some larger chips).

What is wood chip used for?

Wood chip offers a great balance between appearance, durability and economy, when compared to other decorative barks and surface coverings. Wood chip is very free draining but also helps retain moisture where you want it, down in the soil. Wood chip is very robust and unlike bark or mulch, won’t breakdown so easily as the chip is cut not shredded. You can use wood chip directly onto bare earth in your garden for paths or as a decorative weed suppressing layer around your plants, trees or in your borders.

Can your wood chip be used in chicken runs?

Our wood chip also makes an excellent floor for your chicken run preventing muddy, slippery conditions. As a bonus, chickens love to hunt through the woodchip for insects and worms, keeping them busy and happy and happy chickens lay lots of eggs!

Can wood chip be used for access roads or gateways?

Wood chip is also a great, natural alternative to hardcore or chalk if you have wet, heavy traffic, corners or gateways into a field or pony paddock for example.

Does wood chip offer any benefits to the soil?

Wood chip will eventually breakdown and add valuable organic matter and nutrients to your soil, wood chip should last between 6 months to a year depending on its use. When used for animals, such as chickens this may be slightly less depending on numbers of birds and ground conditions.

How much wood chip will I need?

For pathways we recommend a depth of 100mm, beds and borders will require less but ensure there is even coverage to achieve effective weed suppression.

Delivery

Delivery charges are calculated at the checkout.

Pallet courier service delivery

All orders will be delivered on a pallet, delivered to the kerbside. Your bulk bag is put onto a pallet and wrapped. It is then collected by a pallet courier service and delivered to you.

Unfortunately we cannot deliver onto gravel or uneven surfaces.

To ensure a successful delivery to your address please note the following requirements:

The pallet courier will require access for a delivery lorry up to 18 tonne.

Steep slopes, overhanging trees and narrow access gates may prevent a successful delivery.

The lorry will require a firm, level surface in order to unload the pallet. We cannot deliver onto gravel or uneven surfaces.

If the pallet cannot be unloaded onto a firm driveway it will need to be left kerbside in which case you may need to seek permission from your council.

If you believe that there may be problems getting a lorry of this size into your property then please email sales@envar.co.uk before making a booking.

Deliveries take place Monday to Friday between 9am-4pm. Our delivery company will contact you prior to delivery to confirm your delivery details. We aim to deliver within 5-7 working days.
