Today sees the launch of WRAP’s Food Waste Action Week (7-13 March 2022). This year the spotlight is on kitchen appliances that can help us to reduce food waste in our homes – helping to save the planet! We are pleased to support Food Waste Action Week.
Here are some tips on how to reduce food waste in your home:
Freeze food to buy some time before it goes off, defrosting the food fully in the fridge before cooking.
Microwave – frozen food can be defrosted in the microwave – put on a microwave-safe plate and cover it, microwave using the defrost setting and then cook straight away.
These tips should help reduce food waste however if you do generate food waste it is important to recycle it in your food waste bin. Many councils delivery their residents food waste to composting sites such at our site in Cambridgeshire. Here food waste is processed in our in-vessel composting facility where it is turned into a PAS100 soil improved, used to go crops and plants and improve soil health.
