What is no dig gardening?
No dig gardening is a growing method which creates a rich soil and helps to control weeds. It involves mulching the soil with a layer of soil improver or compost which is left on the surface rather than being dug into the soil. By avoiding digging, the soil structure is not disturbed, worms and other micro-organisms with help feed plant roots are not disturbed and the ecosystem of the soil is protected. Plants, organisms and fungi break the soil improver down over time to create a rich soil.
No dig gardening also leads to less weeds. Covering the soil with the soil improver mulch means the weeds are deprived of light, also, as the soil is not disturbed by digging less weeds germinate.
No dig is an attractive way of growing. By using the no dig method gardeners can grow bigger plants and crops as well as saving time by reducing time spent weeding and digging over borders and beds. No dig works on all soils including heavy clay soil.
