Recommended product application layer thickness:
Woodland mulch is made from a mix of softwood and hardwood, the typical particle size is 0-65mm. Our decorative mulch is similar to woodland mulch, however, is much finer, with a typical particle size of 0-25mm; this is ideal for anyone wanting a more decorative finish to their mulched beds and borders. All of our mulch is biodegradable and environmentally friendly, breaking down gradually to improve the soil structure and texture over time. Garden mulch will suppress weed growth, conserve soil moisture and provide insulation to withstand temperature extremes.
Our mulch is 100% British and supplied in 900-litre bulk bags To apply, simply spread over beds and borders and apply around the base of shrubs and trees. Designed to enhance your garden and pathway aesthetics, our garden mulch will improve the appearance of new and existing beds and borders and improve the health and quality of your soil.
We recommend applying soil improver in a layer of the following thickness over the area you want to improve, depending on your soil type.
- Heavy clay soil – 80-100mm thick
- Chalky soil – 50-80mm thick
- Light sandy soil – 20-50mm thick
The above layers should then be forked in, to a depth of approximately 200mm, in particular heavy soils you may wish to add a little more to improve the soil structure.
As a weed-suppressing mulch, our soil improver should be applied in a sunlight blocking 100mm thick layer.
To use the product as a soil improver, apply the Spent Mushroom Compost over the top of your soil to a thickness of around 50mm. The product should then be forked/worked into the soil to mix it in or if you prefer apply as mulch in the autumn and leave it to the worms to dig it in for you.
To use the product as a mulch the Spent Mushroom Compost should be applied in a thick layer over the soil to supress weed growth and conserve moisture.
For pathways we recommend a depth of 100mm, beds and borders will require less but ensure there is even coverage to achieve effective weed suppression.
