It might surprise you but one of the simplest things you can do to help the environment is to turn down your home thermostat a little. In the UK, we tend to be a little over zealous with the central heating and it has huge repercussions in terms of energy usage. If you’re cold, try putting on a jumper and set your thermostat to turn on at 18C. You can always increase the temperature to 20C if needed.
MD of Envar Composting, Andy Sibley, adds “talk to your energy supplier about a smart meter, these give real-time updates on your household energy use to help you create a more energy efficient home. The data from your smart meter is also analysed by your energy company which can help to create a smarter grid that uses sustainable energy sources in the most efficient way.”
