The UK consumes nearly 35 billion cups of coffee each year, generating over 250,000 tonnes of spent coffee ground waste in the process. That leaves us with a lot of waste!
Thankfully, with Envar, your used coffee grounds can be recycled, reducing your carbon footprint.
We accept waste coffee on a small and large scale basis from around the UK. Thanks to our extensive fleet, we are pleased to offer a collection service, alternatively, waste coffee grounds can be tipped at our sites.
But why avoid landfill?
When coffee grounds break down in landfills, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas with a significant environmental impact contributing towards global warming. In fact studies have shown that greenhouse gases can be up to 80% more potent compared to carbon dioxide (CO2).
Plus, spent coffee grounds are dense, wet and heavy, which can make general waste collection very expensive.
When recycling with Envar, not only do you avoid sending waste to landfill but we work closely with our partners to ensure your business gets the best solution possible at a cost effective price.
What happens with your coffee grounds?
Once the coffee grounds arrive at our site, we initiate a thorough & meticulous cleaning process eliminating impurities and contaminants (any non-organic matter) to ensure only the purest grounds move forward in the production cycle.
After cleaning and processing the coffee grounds, we work closely with partners, such as the Homefire Group, to maximise the value and potential of the coffee grounds. These partnerships allow us to create a range of sustainable products in the circular economy such as coffee eco-fuel.
