Decorative mulch

Garden Mulch to Improve your soil

what mulch is right for me?

Woodland mulch is made from a mix of softwood and hardwood, the typical particle size is  0-65mm. Our decorative mulch is similar to woodland mulch, however, is much finer, with a typical particle size of  0-25mm; this is ideal for anyone wanting a more decorative finish to their mulched beds and borders. All of our mulch is biodegradable and environmentally friendly, breaking down gradually to improve the soil structure and texture over time. Garden mulch will suppress weed growth, conserve soil moisture and provide insulation to withstand temperature extremes.,  Our mulch is 100% British and supplied in 900-litre bulk bags To apply, simply spread over beds and borders and apply around the base of shrubs and trees. Designed to enhance your garden and pathway aesthetics, our garden mulch will improve the appearance of new and existing beds and borders and improve the health and quality of your soil.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mulch is a layer of material applied to the surface of the soil, often to protect it. Our mulch is produced from a mix of softwood and hardwood which has been chipped and aged. This is a cost-effective option which looks attractive on your beds and borders while providing protection from moisture loss and extreme temperatures – reducing the need for watering and protecting plant roots.
Mulch and compost are two different things although compost can be used as mulch if using the no-dig gardening method. Garden mulch is used on top of the soil to control weeds, retain moisture, and regulate temperature, while compost is usually incorporated into the soil’s top layer to improve soil structure and provide essential nutrients to plants. Compost or soil improver can be used as a mulch if using the no-dig gardening method where it is left as a layer on top of the soil.
Perennials usually emerge from the mulch in spring. Plants that are young, small, or newly planted in fall might need some mulch removed in spring so they can emerge without difficulty.
Ideal for any horticultural project, our mulches are best used in Autumn when plants are starting to die back, and in Spring, when annual weeds haven’t germinated and herbaceous plants are dormant.
If you need to establish a new plant, use mulch at any time of the year to suppress weeds and retain moisture.
The first step is to weed, followed by mulching. Before applying fresh mulch to your bed, move old mulch aside and remove weeds. You can also lay landscape fabric before mulching in some cases, especially around trees and shrubs.
Our finer, decorative garden mulch can be laid to a depth of 50mm. For our coarser woodland garden mulch, a layer of 75mm would be more suitable. If the layer is too thin weed control may be limited. Once mulch is applied weed growth is suppressed, roots are insulated, and soil health is even improved over time
