Compost fire at our Cambridgeshire site
Envar Composting Ltd (Envar) is implementing its established Fire Management Plan to tackle a fire in one of its windrows of composting organic garden and food waste located at St. Ives, Cambridge subsequent to its discovery on the 31st December 2018. Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Services (CFRS) attended the facility where a plan had been delivered in conjunction with CFRS and the Environment Agency (EA) to manage the compost fire in a proactive manner following instructions from all of the relevant stakeholders. The fighting of the fire and the mitigation of any adverse impact on the surrounding area is being closely monitored by Envar in association with CFRS, the EA, Public Health England, district and county councils. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Envar can assure nearby residents and all other stakeholders that the company is working closely with the relevant agencies to control and extinguish the fire and minimise any impact on the surrounding community.
